Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how your personal information and device data is collected, used, and shared when you install and use the Aventory app ("the App").

1. Information and Permissions We Access

The App requests certain permissions on your device to provide core functionality. Below is a detailed explanation of what permissions we request and exactly how they are used:

  • Camera (android.permission.CAMERA): Used exclusively to allow you to scan barcodes and QR codes for quick item identification, and to take pictures to attach to your personal inventory items. The camera feed is processed locally on your device. We do not remotely monitor, record, or upload your camera feed to any external servers without your explicit action.
  • Storage and Media (READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, READ_MEDIA_IMAGES): Used to allow you to upload existing photos from your device's gallery to attach to your inventory items or locations. Your photos remain on your device (or whatever synchronization backend you explicitly configure).
  • Local Notifications: Used to alert you about item expirations, warranty expirations, and item return dates locally on your device.
  • Microphone/Audio (android.permission.RECORD_AUDIO, MODIFY_AUDIO_SETTINGS): Requested by our core frameworks to support potential media/video attachments. We do not actively record or monitor your audio.
  • Internet Access (android.permission.INTERNET): Used for in-app purchases (Google Play Billing), AI-generated item descriptions (if utilized), and optional features you enable such as Cloud Sync. We do not sell your data to third-party tracking services.

2. How We Use Your Data

Aventory is designed to be a "local-first" application. Your inventory data, locations, and images are stored securely on your own device. We use the requested permissions strictly to make the App perform its intended local functionality.

When you utilize our AI Assist features, certain contextual data or images may be transmitted to your selected AI provider. This data is managed directly by either Google or OpenRouter, depending on the provider you choose to configure.

3. Data Retention and Deletion

Because the app primarily stores data locally on your device, you have complete control over your data. You can delete all your inventory data at any time by simply uninstalling the application or clearing the App's data from your device settings.

4. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time in order to reflect, for example, changes to our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
